Glasses enhance color hue for color blind
EL PASO, Texas – Elias Adair, 20, said his childhood was always normal; color blindness didn’t affect his lifestyle until he was a teenager.
“You don’t really know what’s missing there. Everything looks normal to you,” Adair said.
His color blindness affected him once he started driving .
“I was going down a street and I couldn’t tell what color it was. I could tell the light was on, I just couldn’t tell if it was red or green or yellow. It was on a major highway; I had to come to a complete stop before realizing it was green,” he said.
Jamil Moutran,Elias’ father, said, “if there was a possibility I could have my son see in color for the first time, I’d take that chance.”
Moutran researched and discovered Enchroma glasses. These glasses use a filter that amplifies color signals, and and makes them more distinguishable. Elias tried them on for the first time.
“It was amazing! You’re surrounded by greens and reds and purples. Colors popped for the first time, I was able to see colors like I couldn’t before,” Elias said.
Now that Elias has seen what he was missing, Jamil has bigger plans. Moutran said, “I’m not going to stop with just my son. I want to be able to raise enough money to help other people experience color for the first time”.
