El Paso Police Officer Adrian Arellano laid to rest
El Paso Police Officer Adrian Arellano was laid to rest Tuesday in East El Paso.
He was killed last week while escorting a funeral on his motorcycle when he struck the vehicle of a woman police say allegedly disobeyed the officers’ directions to not proceed.
Arellano was 39.
He leaves behind a wife and an 11-year-old son.
Hundreds of officers, family and friends gathered at St. Raphael Catholic Church for the funeral service to honor Arellano.
The funeral procession stretched across East El Paso and was led by more than 50 of Arellano’s closest members on the force – all of them riding motorcycles, just like he did.
After pulling up to the church, Arellano’s widow, Margaret, and his son, Adrian Jr., were escorted into the church.
A short time later, Arellano’s body was removed from the hearse as hundreds of El Paso Police officers stood at attention and saluted him for his 10 years of service.
The family did not want media inside the church during the Mass but we were told it was standing room only inside with an overflowing crowd.
ABC-7 spoke with Officer Ron Martin, president of the El Paso Municipal Police Officers Association, about what kind of officer Arellano was.
“if you needed help he was always there to help you, I mean he was a go-getter, he was in one of our tactical sections, an officer only two years on getting into one of those sections is rare, so he was a fine officer and it’s sad.”
