Gadsden High student awarded for perfect attendance for K-12th grade
Three Gadsden ISD students received an award Thursday for achieving perfect attendance from the time they were kindergartners until senior year.
“I always liked school,” said Natalie Corona.
A cap and gown is comfortable on Corona.
“When I was in kinder I remember we were suppose to go in a week later,” Corona said.
When ABC-7 asked Corona what kind of student she is to never have begged her mom for a sick day, she said when her kinder year started a week later than usual, she cried.
“I thought they didn’t want me in school,” Corona said.
Behind Corona’s motivation to attend without fail, more than two thousand days of instruction, is her mom.
“My mom is a single parent, so it’s hard on her,” Corona said. “So I want to be someone successful, so I know like, by not missing school, I’m going to keep reaching up to my goal.”
Her goal is to become a lawyer. But that desire to help her mom has already paid off. With a 4.0 GPA Corona has been accepted to NMSU on a full scholarship. She plans on studying criminal justice, and yes, achieving perfect attendance at the collegiate level too.
“If you never miss a day, you get to learn more things,” Corona said. ” I’ve seen it from experience that friends miss for a day or two and they miss a whole lesson.”
Corona will attend her last day of high school this week. Maria Corona is proud of her youngest daughter. She said it was tough raising two teen girls, but she knew, no matter how much they screamed and argued with her, it would all be worth it. Although she must have had it easier than most, raising daughters that loved school so much, they wouldn’t dare miss a day.
“I don’t want to miss out on anything,” Corona said.
