Former Catholic Diocese School Board Member Sentenced On Child Porn Charge
He lost his family, his job and his home. Now he’s lost his freedom.
A federal judge Thursday sentenced a former school board member with the El Paso Catholic Diocese to ten years in prison.
Earlier this year, Victor Jerome Reza pleaded guilty to receiving and sharing child porn. Soon after his August 2014 arrest, Reza admitted to investigators he knowingly downloaded the files using peer-to-peer sites.
In court documents, Reza’s attorney argued his client did not know what he was doing was wrong.
“(Reza’s ) belief was that he was viewing material that had been floating around on the internet for years,” said Robert Ramos. “Material he was neither buying nor trying to redistribute.”
Ramos further states Reza did not believe his conduct was “harming anyone since only he would know.”
When he gets out of prison, Reza will have to register as a sex offender and serve 10 years probation.
Court documents reveal the former school board member lost his family, his home and his job.
