Local group awarded professional soccer franchise to play in Juarez
The MountainStar Sports Group teamed up with several prominent Juarez families and have been awarded a new team franchise by the Mexican Futbol Federation to play in Juarez.
The club — which the group plans to call FC Juarez — would be part of the Ascenso MX League, the second pro level of the Mexican football league system.
Matches would be played in the stadium of the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez.
“We are elated to make this announcement,” Alejandra de la Vega Foster, co-owner of MountainStar Sports Group said in a news release. “There are some conditions we need to resolve, but we are well on our way. This is an opportunity that does not come often, and we are excited to be a part of it and to bring high-level soccer to the region.”
De la Vega Foster said the new partnership, including the de la Vega, Fernandez, Muoz, and Talavera families of Juarez, along with the Foster and Hunt families of El Paso, will own and manage the team.
