Ex-Sunland Park city council member Daniel Salinas reaches plea deal
Former Sunland Park city representative Daniel Salinas has reached a plea deal with prosecutors and will appear in court Wednesday.
Salinas was elected mayor pro-tem in 2012 and later decided to run for mayor.
He’s accused of hiring someone to secretly videotape a candidate running against him getting a lapdance to allegedly try and get the candidate to drop out of the race.
Salinas was charged with extortion.
Salinas’ attorney Joshua Spencer told ABC-7 that all 33 counts against Salinas will be resolved because his client will accept responsibility for his actions.
The judge is expected to hear the change of plea and tell Salinas what his punishment will be.
ABC-7’s New Mexico mobile newsroom will be there.
