Police release name of man in Northeast SWAT situation

El Paso Police have released the name of the man involved in a SWAT situation Tuesday night.

Police say the SWAT situation began at around 7:40 p.m. On the 11900 block of Mesquite Bush.

Neighbors told police 53-year-old Daniel Sandoval was threatening them with a kitchen knife and then barricaded himself inside the home.

SWAT tried to negotiate with Sandoval when the situation took an unexpected turn at about 1:30 a.m.

Sandoval got in his truck and rammed through his garage door — hitting a rock wall and two police units.

Police say Sandoval then led officers on a chase for several miles.

Sandoval faces two counts of aggravated assault.

He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
