El Paso Electric files rate case, appeals to customers

needs you to pay more every month on your electric bill…. to pay for $1.3 billion dollars it spent on upgrades. the utility is asking el paso city council to approve the utility’s overall rates about 11 percent … just under 12 percent for residential customers. that translates to average increase of about 8 and a half dollars a month in your home bill, according to e-p-e… meant to generate an extra 71 point 5 million dollars in revenue a year to cover investments made into the grid. “you may not look at your electric meter much, but it could be costing you more in the near future. that’s because el paso electric filed its rate case this week. this is volume 1 out of 12, over 5 thousand pages detailing why the company says it deserves more because of the investments it’s made, and that will ultimately come deserves more because of the investments it’s made, and that will ultimately come down in a lengthy decision process with local and state regulators.” ‘i do use quite a bit.” dolore loya is probably like most el pasoans, using electrictiy to beat the heat during the summer… and for just about everything else that goes on in her lower valley house… where she hosted el paso electric including ceo tom shockley to explain the increase. “th reason – what necessitated these requests, is that we had to build new facilities of the area that we’re in.” investments to the tune of 1.3 billion. loya says she isn’t exactly happy about the increase… “but understand where they’re coming from. i’m realistic. and i understand that everyone needs a raise once in a while.” but others at the meeting like maria carmen lozano don’t really agree. “pues no. no esta bien creo que para todo no esta bien en el aumento. todos pensamos que no esta bien.” she says it’s not okay, and that she doesn’t think anyone is okay with the increase. el paso electric says it will continue to hold meetings like these to get the word, and they hope support, out. andrew j. polk, abc-7. with the rate case filed, city council and regulators now have until december to review the documents and make a decision… to accept, settle, or oppose it. el paso electic says that depending on how that and possible legal challenges go— increases could go into effect by the end of spring next year. abc-7’s andrew j. polk has the news that affects all of us… and a look at the impacts of a possible rate increase. off the top ” it comes
