Arrests made in US 54 highway shooting
El Paso Police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting in Northeast El Paso on Monday.
Chad King, 25, and Deshaun Jones, 27, were detained at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint by U.S. Border Patrol agents for warrants on file for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity with a Deadly Weapon. Both arrestees were transported back to El Paso and booked into the El Paso County Detention.
El Paso Police were sent to a shorts fired call at U.S. 54 North and Hondo Pass at about 4:27 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10. The police department’s gang unit also responded to the incident.
Police say that the victim was travelling North on U.S. 54 in his white Chevrolet Impala when a suspect in another vehicle shot at the victim’s vehicle near the Hondo Pass Exit.
The victim then exited U.S. 54 at Hondo Pass.
The victim then jumped from his vehicle onto the street with his vehicle continuing on the roadway where it collided with a metal barrier on private property at Skyline and Gateway North.
He was transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries from jumping out of his vehicle.
Based on the gang unit’s investigation, two warrants were obtained for King and Jones for allegedly Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity with a Deadly Weapon.
Bond for both individuals was set at $500,000.
