Storage shed fire spreads to home in east El Paso
The El Paso Fire Department responded to a house fire early Tuesday on the 11800 block of Sierra Morenon in east El Paso.
EPFD Battalion Chief Bradley St. Myers said the fire started in a storage shed attached to the home. The flames quickly spread to the home.
Chief St. Myers added neighbors noticed the flames, alerted the residents and called 911.
A man who lives across the street told ABC-7 he was watching television when he saw the fire spread.
“All of a sudden I heard like a huge ‘bang.’ I looked out my window and I saw the fire , I was like ‘oh my God,” said Justin Martinez.
He recorded video of the fire on his cell phone that showed flames bursting out of the roof of the shed and home.
St. Meyers said swimming pool cleaning supplies were found in the shed. He could not confirm if that was the cause of the fire, but the chemicals did help spread the flames to the home.
Three residents in the home manged to escape with no injuries.
Chief St. Meyers urged residents to look through their own storage sheds and remove any flammable products.
Damage is estimated at $30,000.
