Hikers discover human remains during morning trek on Franklin Mountains
A group of hikers stumbled upon human remains Saturday morning on the foothills of the Franklin Mountains.
El Paso police were called out to a desert area north of the Transmountain-Resler intersection, where a Department of Public Safety helicopter could be seen circling the skies.
Police said the remains are human, but there is no foul play suspected and it is being treated as an unattended death. The hikers remained on the scene and could also be seen talking to police officers.
In a Twitter post about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the El Paso Police Department said it was handling the investigation, and there was limited information available. The tweet also said, “Death unattended investigation under way.”
