Affidavit: Accused Drunk Driver Allegedly Admits to Drinking for Hours Prior to Crash
El Paso Police have charged a 34-year-old Anthony, New Mexico man with three counts of intoxication manslaughter in a Tuesday morning crash.
Police say Jimmy Villanueva, driving a GMC, was traveling north on Doniphan while a 1995 Honda was traveling sounth.
Villanueva failed to yield the right-of-way and turned left onto Artcraft in front of the Honda, according to police.
The two vehicles collided at the intersection.
According to a complaint affidavit obtained by ABC-7, an officer responding to the crash found Villanueva inside the truck, slumped over the wheel. The officer also found a couple of empty beer cans inside the truck, according to the court document.
As a result of the crash the driver of the Honda Civic, 45-year-old Araceli Solis, 18-year-old Gilbert Solis and the 15-year-old male passenger all sustained serious injuries and were being treated at local hospitals.
The 14-year-old male and Villanueva received minor injuries from the crash and were treated at local hospitals.
Court documents state Solis might lose her right leg because of the severity of the injury.
Villanueva volunteered a blood sample for analysis. He allegedly admitted to officers he had been drinking for hours before the crash.
Police obtained warrants and Villanueva was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on three counts of Intoxication Assault. His bonds totaled: $275,000.
