Doa Ana County woman disputes water bill that jumped from $30 to $500

A Doa Ana County woman said her mother is being charged way too much for her monthly water bill and is not satisfied with the answers she’s getting.

Teri Trujillo said that from June to July, her mother Mary Trujillo’s water bill spiked from $30 a month $500.

Mary Trujillo told ABC-7 she only uses water for small tasks such as cooking and cleaning.

Teri Trujillo repeatedly tried to get answers from the Doa Ana Mutual Domestic Water Consumers Association about why her mother’s bill jumped so drastically high, but she said she hasn’t had any luck.

So, she reached out to ABC-7, which contacted the company for answers. The director didn’t want to speak on camera, but said after sending the meter in for testing, they determined nothing was wrong.

The director said there must be a leak on the property and it’s up to Trujillo to hire someone to find out where it is.

“Something has got to be done. My mom cannot afford this kind of … so what happens if they disconnect her water what is she going to do?” Trujillo said. “You know we need water to sustain life and are they going to cut her off for the fact that you know oh well you have a leak pay the bill but there’s no evidence of a leak.”
