Just how terrible IS Brandon Weeden, anyway?
Just how terrible IS the Dallas Cowboys’ temporary starting quarterback, Brandon Weeden?
Maybe not so terrible, after all, despite the Cowboy’s 0-2 record during his brief run as a starter.
The Cowboys all-time record-holder for consecutive completions isn’t named Staubach, Aikman, Romo. Nor is it Danny White, Don Meredith or Eddie LeBaron. It’s Brandon Weeden, that’s who.
Weeden finished last season with five consecutive completed passes, then didn’t miss in seven attempts after taking over when Romo broke his clavicle against the Philadelphia Eagles. That plus nine more at the start of the Atlanta Falcons game gave him the franchise record of 21, just three off Donovan McNabb’s NFL record of 24.
If streaks seem a little too random, consider this: After Aaron Rodgers (125.), the quarterback with the NFC’s top passer rating is (wait for it) Brandon Weeden, with a 108.8. He’s completed more than three quarters of his passes, and does have one interception to go along with this two touchdowns.
And, while the Cowboys lost a very winnable overtime game to the New Orleans Saints last week, Weeden did lead them on a 91-yard drive to tie the score in the final two minutes of regulation.
If you want someone to blame, maybe the defense would be a better place to start.
