El Pasoans walk to raise awareness about mental illness

Hundreds of people in the Borderland walked Saturday morning at Memorial Park to bring awareness to mental illnesses.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness has hosted this annual walk for the past five years.

“Our mission is to provide public awareness, education, support services, so other people can live better lives,” said Clemencia Prieto, president of NAMI in El Paso. “All of that is encompassed in our mission so we want to be sure that whatever we collect here financially we continue to have resources to do that.”

NAMI serves the El Paso community by offering free educational classes and support services for those in need.
