The National Nurse’s Union wants hospital to resolve staffing issues

The National Nurse’s Union at the Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus held a demonstration Wednesday in hopes that they could resolve staffing issues with hospital management.

The group says the staffing levels are not meeting national standards or the hospital’s policy. They say the issues do not allow for the type of bedside care they want to provide to the patients and the community.

The union claims they have not been able to reach an agreement with management on three issues: staffing in the operating room, staffing in labor and delivery and staffing and supplies in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit.

The group says they are unable to provide quality care with these issues.

In response to the demonstration the Hospitals at Providence’s management released this statement Wednesday afternoon:

“While we recognize the rights of the union to hold this event, we remain focused on our mission of providing high-quality, patient-centered care to our community. As is our practice, we will continue attempting to work with the NNOC in the best interest of our staff, our patients and our hospital.”
