14-year-old Diego Fernandez remembered by family and friends

the 14- year-old boy who was killed in fridays crash off on i-10 near redd road. it involved two semi’s and the car he was in. abc-7’s jerry najera was at canutillo middle school for the memorial. he is live with the story … jerry rick estela many tears were shed today as dozens of of diegos friends and family members mourned his loss.. students slowly fill in the bleachers. many with heavy hearts. “today we honor our good friend diego hernandez” family members-teachers and students all daun a black soccer ball with the number 7 representing diegos number on the soccer team. some of diegos best friends speaking about the young man who’s life was cut short “diego was a really smart kid” others saying they could still here his voice in the hallways and perhaps one of the most touching moments in the memorial was school administrators retiring the number 7 and handing the jersey to diego’s oldest brother guadalupe. “he had a grea future he wanted to be a soccer player” diego’s youngest brother-julio- holding a soccer ball teamates signed for the family. the band also took a moment to honor diego the only way they could. friends of diego in that group missing him as well. students took a chance to write their farewells on ballons hoping diego will see them in the skies now “he was a great kid” gaudalupe tells me both his parents who were also in the crash are doing better his father is talking now and saying his mother just woke up two days ago. disagreement at el paso city hall. at issue: should the city shell out more
