UPDATE: Joel Garcia bonded out of jail
The man accused of killing three people in a deadly car crash on Christmas Eve last year bonded out of jail on Thursday.
According to jail records, 25-year-old Joel Garcia was released on a $150,000 bond.
The judge in the intoxicated manslaughter case did not make a decision on granting him a bond during a hearing earlier this week because he was waiting to hear from the appeals court.
Original story:
The man accused of killing three people in a deadly car crash on Christmas Eve last year, pleaded guilty to an unrelated DWI charge on Monday.
Joel Garcia, 24, received the maximum sentence of 365 days in prison and a fine of $4,000 for an arrest back in April 2014.
Garcia is also awaiting trial for the Christmas Eve deadly crash in which police say he ran a red light while driving drunk. He faces three intoxicated manslaughter charges.
The trial has been on hold pending a ruling by a Texas Court of Appeals, on an appeal filed by the state.
In a copy of the state’s lab report, Garcia’s blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.
Back in July of this year, Judge Gonzalo Garcia threw out several key pieces of evidence, including the blood sample. The judge ruled Garcia’s blood was taken without a warrant.
The judge also dismissed a confession that Garcia had given to police because his Miranda rights had not been read to him.
