2 people killed in crash between band’s tour bus and 18-wheeler on Highway 62/180

A band’s tour bus and an 18-wheeler were involved in a fatal crash Thursday morning.

Two people were killed in the collision, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.

They are identified as Steven Cunningham, 64, from Las Cruces, NM and Gregory Hoke, 31, from Round Rock, TX

Cunningham was the driver of the 18-wheeler, Hoke was driving the bus.

It happened at about 9:16 a.m. at mile marker 63, just passed the Border Patrol checkpoint.

Highway 62/180 past the checkpoint to FM-1111 has since reopened.

A gofundme account has been created for the band The Ghost Inside, who were traveling in the tour bus:

“Members of The Ghost Inside and their crew were injured in a horrific accident on highway 180 in Texas that tragically claimed two lives traveling in the other vehicle involved. Multiple members of the band and crew suffered serious injuries during the ordeal. Equipment was also lost in addition to various medical bills incurred.

“This fund is set up to cover the band’s medical bills and equipment losses incurred during this tragic event. Any amount of money you can contribute to this fund is greatly appreciated. It is extremely difficult for a band to cover expenses from a tragic event such as this one,” according to the gofundme account page.

The band’s drummer, Andrew Tkaczyk, was seriously injured in the collision, according to his brother Nick Tkaczyk.

“For those not in the know, my brother Andrew was airlifted to the hospital this morning after his bus was involved in an accident,” Nick wrote on his Facebook page. “He is alive, however he has suffered head trauma, as well as broken bones in his lower extremities, and a shoulder injury. He is currently in ICU and may require surgery. Please give us all your prayers, thoughts, whatever it is that you do, as we need it.”

Correction: Texas DPS initially reported that it was a Greyhound bus involved in the crash but now says it is a privately-owned bus and not a Greyhound bus.
