Couple Charged in Theft of Laptop Computer
Las Cruces Police arrested a young couple they suspect was involved in stealing a $1,000 laptop computer Wednesday morning and selling it at a local pawn shop.
Skyler Nash, 23, and Monica Samaniego, 20, are both charged with one count each of receiving or disposing of stolen property and conspiracy. Nash also faces charges of burglary of a vehicle and larceny over $500.
Investigators learned that at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, a young man broke into a vehicle parked at 505 S. Main St. and removed a MacBook Air laptop that was inside. At least two witnesses saw the burglary and recognized the suspect as Nash.
The witnesses contacted the vehicle’s owner who filed a report with police.
Investigators learned that Nash and Samaniego took the stolen laptop to the Cash Express pawn shop where Samaniego sold the laptop for $80. Police learned the identity of Nash and where he might be staying, and located the couple later Wednesday morning.
