Residents prepare for Segundo Barrio closures

The area between Paisano, Campbell, and the Border Highway will have restricted access the morning of the 17th, only residents will be able to come in and out. Once 2 pm rolls around, no one will be allowed to enter or leave the area until the Pope has left.

The city will hold its final meeting on the issue Monday at 6 p.m. in the Armijo Recreation center.

Many have gotten the day off, but those who haven’t say they’ll have problems getting to work.

“Every day I have to cross over there,” said Segundo resident Pedro Chavero, who crosses Paisano several times a day for work.

Not everyone agrees the visit warrants such security.

“Pope is a man, like any other,” said Celia Duron, an evangelical Christian.

Others think the closures aren’t that bad.

“Closing streets is the best authorities can do to protect residents,” said Francisco Salazar.

“With all these closures I’ll just watch the Mass on television,,” said Virginia Castruita.

Older residents say they’ll stay home, saving themselves from the hassle.
