Rep. Gonzalez keeps seat on Legislature
State Rep. Mary Gonzalez will keep her seat in the Texas Legislature.
She maintained a nearly 20 percent lead over Chente Quintanilla all night in the Democratic primary for State Rep. of District 75 late Tuesday.
Gonzalez was elected in 2012 to represent the East El Paso County in Austin. That year, Quintanilla ran for the El Paso County Commissioners. In 2014, Gonzalez was re-elected.
“I was a little surprised by the numbers!” said Gonzalez. “But it was a lot of hard work, a thousands of doors knocked on, thousands of phone calls. We were positive and always telling the truth. I’m going to continue to find money for education, make sure everyone has basic infrastructure, and really give El Paso the leadership it deserves.”
Quintanilla, who represented District 75 for 10 years, is seeking to win his seat back.
“I think she ran a good grassroots campaign and going on early voting numbers,” Quintanill said, “she did a lot of work walking and getting people to vote early.”
