Grenade found during home renovations

Landscapers completing home renovations had quite the scare Tuesday afternoon. The El Paso Police Department said landscapers dug up a grenade with a shovel under the sidewalk.

This happened at 8105 La Paloma off Yarbrough in the lower valley.

A neighbor told ABC-7 he first thought it was gas when told there could be a possible explosion. When he found out it was an old grenade, he said, “This is an older neighborhood and some of the folks who used to live here are pretty old. They probably have some relics from the wars.”

The EPPD Bomb Squad responded and took custody for disposal. The streets were reopened by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
