John Perry arrested on capital murder charge
wrapped up a news conference at its headquarters. police chief greg allen announced the man who crashed into offiver david ortiz– who eventually died– did it intentionally. john perry was arrested overnight and he is now facing murder charges. abc-7’s josie ortegon is live with our breaking news coverage… police say perry drove and crashed into officer ortiz who was stopped at a red light at the intersection of lee trevino and vista del sol. ortiz, a nine year veteran with the department, was thrown from his motorcycle and taken to del sol where he died. perry was arrested for previous traffic citations but released as the investigation continued. yesterday, he was arrested and taken into custody in merkel texas, just outside of abiline. the texas deparment of safety, merkel and abiline police assisted in the arrest. texas dps regional commander commander kerry matthews says perry was arrested without incident. he couldn’t say why the arrest took so long, but says there was enough evidence to believe perry intentionally killed officer ortiz: “i think some information…a murder case.” perry is being held in merkel and will be brought to el paso. back to you. el paso police are also looking what caused a deadly crash
