Local runner posts strong showing at Boston Marathon
BOSTON, Mass. – Las Crucen Dylan Villescas finished 28th in this year’s Boston Marathon, according to the Boston Athletic Association’s website.
Villescas, who attended Mayfield High School, is no stranger to performing well in marathons. His time of a little over 2 hours and 29 minutes in Boston placed him among the top ten American finishers.
Last year, he finished fourth in the San Francisco Marathon, running the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 13 seconds.
He also won the 2015 El Paso Marathon.
Villescas ran track and cross country at Holy Cross after he finished his career at Mayfield.
In other marathon news, Ethiopian runners took home top sports in both the men’s and women’s races. It was the first time in the 120-year history of the Boston Marathon that Ethiopia swept both races.
Lemi Berhanu Hayle took the top spot in the men’s race, cruising to a comfortable 47-second victory over 2015 champion Lelisa Desisa.
Atsede Baysa won the women’s race, overcoming a 37-second deficit at mile 21.
