Court document: Police officer was angry at wife for texting, threatened to hurt himself
An El Paso police officer accused of beating his wife was upset that she was text messaging, according to court documents.
Officer Danny Moreno, 27, was home when his wife, 22-year-old Priscila Moreno arrived from work. She told investigators that he was mad at her for texting, which she denied.
Moreno allegedly grabbed her by her hair and called her a liar, court documents state. The woman said she was not a liar and told him to let her go because he was hurting her.
The arrest affidavit states Danny Moreno had a “violent outburst” and kicked his wife’s purse, which had a container of yogurt that splattered on the walls and floor.
Moreno told his wife to clean up the mess and take a shower. Priscilla Moreno was on the bed when her husband walked in and lied next to her.
He told her she “didn’t deserve any of this” and told her to stay in the room before he left. Moreno’s wife said when he returned he got some ice and went out into the patio for several hours.
When he came back inside, court documents state, Moreno told his wife he wanted to hurt himself and began hitting the walls. Moreno’s wife said she was removing any item with which he can hurt himself.
That’s when Moreno allegedly grabbed his wife by the neck and pinned her against the wall. She said she felt pain but was able to breath. She told Moreno she didn’t want him to hurt her anymore before let her go.
Police were called to couple’s home about 2 a.m. Saturday on the 1900 block of Trawood.
When officers arrived, they found Moreno sitting inside a car. Officers secured the perimeter outside while SWAT and Crisis Negotiators spoke to the man.
Moreno was then taken into custody. He was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on one count of assault/family violence. His bond was set at $1500.00.
Officer Moreno is serving an extended term of military service, and when he is released from that assignment he will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
