Suspicious package closes part of Downtown El Paso

A suspicious package that shut down parts of Downtown El Paso on Friday night was found not to be a threat by police.

The initial response by officers with the El Paso Police Department happened around 5:30 p.m. Friday. Police reported the package was sent to the Western Refining office inside the Anson Mills building on 303 N. Oregon Street in Downtown. The bomb squad was called to investigate, and determined the package was not hazardous.

Main and Oregon streets were closed off while the bomb squad investigated. Both were reopened overnight.
