Candidates close in on nominations
As close as Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are to being their official party nominees it’s not a sure thing just yet. The democratic candidates are campaigning in the Land of Enchantment this week.
New Mexico has 43 democratic delegates ready to be won over in the June 7 primary. Bernie Sanders or Clinton need to hold 2,383 delegates to win their party’s nomination. As of right now Clinton has 2,293 and Sanders 1,533. Clinton still needs to win over 90 delegates while sanders would have to get 850 of the 939 remaining delegates to be the nominee.
On the other side of the aisle Trump sits king, looking like the presumptive republican nominee for the general election, and can win 24 delegates in the New Mexico primary. He holds 1,237 delegates already and needs only 76 more to win the nomination out of the 402 delegates remaining in the nation.
Despite his significant disadvantage, Sanders said today he’s not giving up.
“Brothers and sisters, we are in a critical and pivotal moment in American history. And the way we transform America is not just by electing a president, it is by creating a political revolution,” said Sanders at a rally in Vado Saturday.
