Endangered fawn born at El Paso Zoo
The El Paso Zoo has welcomed a new addition. A new Peninsular pronghorn antelope was born May 13.
The endangered fawn weighed in at 7 pounds.
The birth is part of a breeding recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan to aid in species’ conservation. Peninsular pronghorns are currently listed as “critically endangered” in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This makes the species one category before “extinct.”
Pronghorns can run at speeds of 60 miles an hour.
The zoo says Valentina is already actively running with the rest of the herd.
