Fireworks sales improve economic impact in El Paso
TNT Fireworks was out of business the past 5 years due to severe drought conditions. But now the fireworks ban has been lifted throughout unincorporated areas of El Paso County.
The drought index must reach 575 to impose a ban, but it seems likely it wont reach that number this year for officials to call for a fireworks ban.
With the new business, comes more economic stability throughout the area.
Fernie Viramontes, Manager with TNT fireworks said the majority of sales are helping students.
“Most of managers and vendors with TNT are teachers and coaches,” Viramontes said. “They all have fundraising groups that they’re trying to help. Equipment and travel is is what the majority of these sales go towards, helping the kids.”
Melissa Jaquez, a student from Texas Tech, said she also thinks the lift of the ban has helped the unincorporated areas of El Paso.
“I think it’s really good for the community,” Jaquez said. “I know a lot of students get these jobs for a few weeks to help them out and pay for classes or anything else they may need.”
Fireworks willstill be banned within the city limits and in otherincorporated areas that may ban them.
