triple digit temperatures we’ll be feeling the remainder of the week — we’ll check in with doppler in just a moment — but first – developing news out of timberon new mexico. that’s where a massive wildfire is burning at this hour. timberon is about a 2 hour drive from el paso near cloudcroft. the otero county sheriffs office is reporting close to two hundred acres of forest has burned in the village. officials say some structures have been lost and people are beginning to evacuate. abc-7’s jerry najera is live in alamogordo with our new mexico mobile newsroom. jerry? otero county sheriffs gave us a lot of information so were going to get right to it. the video your seeing right now was shot from alamagordo. the village of timberon and that fire are on the other side of that mountain. sheriffs officials are telling me they have closed roads going into that area for now. they say about 900 residents live in the village of timberon. they say the fire actually started in village area so many residents are concerned at this moment at one point the fire station itself was in danger sheriffs say people have already started self evacuating. no one is being forced to leave their homes at this moment. i’m also being told there is about one hundred firefighters battling the fire and they are also using air tankers “just basically trying to sav as many structures as possible and make sure no one gets hurt the fire is not contained at this moment it’s still out of control” 30 people are at the shelter let’s check in with doppler dave — he’s been keeping track of the wind speeds out in timberon
