sot: trump ,ladies and gentlemen? my wife, a great mother, etc? melania taking the stage introducing herself to america? and making the case for her husband. sot melania : he is tough when he has to be but he is also kind and fair and caring. her speech though sparking controversy overnight? allegations of plagiarism? some portions of the speech, sounding nearly identical to first lady michelle obama’s 2008 convention speech “w want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them. ” the convention got of to a chaotic start? anti-trump delegates- on the convention floor trying- and failing to take steps to block trump’s nomination. nat chanting “usa, usa, usa!” the night theme was to make america “safe” again meant t focus on national security and recent violence but the theme that took over? there is a group of westsiders who live in the area and don’t want the tower to go up. they say it would mean more traffic and the the tower is simply too tall. the 22-story high rise would include retail space, 219 hotels rooms, 228 apartments and a 715- car parking garage. but could residents concerns be enough to hault the project? the tower’s developer– the meyers group– has closed on the purchase of the property where the 100-million dollar project is proposed. those opposing the tower say property value will sky-rocket. there are actually two petions floating around– for and against the high rise. abc-7 will be at today’s meeting– as soon as council comes down with the decision we’ll let you know on our social media platforms and kvia.com. new this morning– abc-7 is working to confirm whether a man arrested for selling meth to an undercover agent is a fort bliss soldier. court records show 25-year-old derek calderon was arrested in el paso by immigration and customs enforcement agents. he also boasted about the deal on social media. days after calderon allegedly sold meth to the undercover agent, he posted a video on his instagram account that shows him thumbing through several $100 bills. the bills allegedly contained the same serial numbers the undercover agent used to pay calderon for the meth. / a hearing will continue today for three former bowie high school administrators who could get their teaching certificates taken away. this all has to do with the episd cheating scandal. three students took the stand yesterday – saying the scandal negatively affected their education. one student – testified that she should have been in the 11th grade with the credits she earned through schooling in mexico- but bowie placed her in 9th grade. she said she eventually dropped out and returned to mexico. ‘no parking’ signs could go up within a few days near the tornillo port of entry. commissioners voted unanimously to create no parking zones around the entrance to the port of entry. the el paso county sheriff’s office has been dealing with a large buildup of cars and trucks. owners park there so the vehicles can eventually be exported to mexico. sheriff’s deputies estimate they are spending up to $8- thousand dollars a week on extra manpower to patrol the area — with a total of 6-to-8 deputies on duty there each day. 6-07… weather and traffic on the 7s… an upper high pressure center over the southern plains will move back over new mexico by saturday. moisture and instability will persist, giving the borderland scattered thunderstorms. temperatures will continue trending back to near normal. however by friday and saturday, most of the moisture will be pushed west toward the arizona border. this area is where thunderstorms likely will be limited to for the weekend. as the clouds decrease, temperatures will climb back up well above normal for the weekend. …abc-7 traffic track … now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… still to come here on gmep– residents are returning home after crews regain control of the wildfire in southern new mexico—but some have no home to return to. plus— john fausett is here from the national weather service to talk more about dust storms here in the borderland. and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
