Private roads in Vado to be paved with recycled roofing material
The residents of Vado, New Mexico are finally getting the roads they’ve been waiting for.
For years, residents have said some private roads are unfit for driving and badly damaged. Some say it’s a safety hazard and emergency vehicles are unable to drive through them.
At a meeting in January, many told stories about first-responders unable to get to their homes.
“We don’t need another person to die before these roads get paved,” said Sarah Silva, director of the non-profit group Communities in Action and Faith.
Thursday CAFE is receiving over 60 tons of recycled roofing shingle material to begin paving Cabolla Lane. Two other roads, Tarin Road and Coleman Road, will be paved in a couple weeks.
Leaders say a local El Paso recycling company partnered with the regional EPA office to donate the materials.
Since the roads are privately owned, Dona Ana County is not responsible for maintaining them.
