Attempted murder suspect previously convicted of Murder

SWAT Team officers assisted the EPPD Gang Unit with the arrest of a man suspected of attempted murder.

Armando Martinez, 34, was arrested Friday morning at a home on the 10000 block of Audobon in Northeast El Paso. Police charged him with attempted murder and set his bond at $300,000. Martinez surrendered without incident.

Criminal case records obtained by the ABC-7 I-Team reveal Martinez has an extensive criminal history. In 2001, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison.

In 2014, Martinez was convicted of Assault Causing Bodily Injury and sentenced to a year in prison and two years of community service. That same year, Martinez was convicted of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was sentenced to a year prison, which her served concurrently with the sentence for the assault conviction.

Thursday night, Martinez was at a social gathering at a home on the 5600 hundred block of Waldorf when he allegedly stabbed a 34-year-old man several times with a knife.

The victim was taken to an emergency care facility, where doctors called police. Investigators learned Martinez and the victim were arguing shortly before the stabbing.

Police did not identify the victim and did not provide an update on his status. The man was stabbed several time in the upper torso.
