Dozens dance, sing outside Don Haskins Center to celebrate Juan Gabriel

Dozens expecting to attend Juan Gabriel’s concert in El Paso Sunday night, gathered outside in his honor.

Sunday, the press office for the Mexican superstar confirmed the singer died at age 66. He was expected to perform at the Don Haskins Center the same day.

But the concert continued outside, as many held up photos, some brought flowers, and others lit candles.

“We’ve been planning this for almost three months so it’s really hard,” one fan said.

“My first concert was when I was 9-years-old and I had the chance to go back stage and meet him and he was the nicest person ever,” another fan said.

Some people danced, some cried. Others showed off Juan Gabriel’s signature moves.

Then, a rainbow appeared over the Don Haskins Center. A sign many believed was his one last hurrah, looking over the border.

Refunds for the concert will be available starting Monday at 10 a.m.
