Female inmate at large after escaping during visit to Deming dentist

The hunt is on for a female Luna County Detention Center inmate who escaped Wednesday.

Meleni Pollock escaped while on a visit to a local dentist office, Luna County Manager Ira Pearson said.

The reason she had to go to the dentist is unknown.

The 22-year-old inmate managed to escape her detention officer while remaining shackled, exiting through the front door of the office.

Officials said Pollock could still be shackled. They believe she remains around the Deming area.

Pollock is described as being 5-foot-1 with brown hair, hazel eyes, and weighs about 135 pounds.

She was booked into the detention center Aug.31 for battery against a household member.

Officials say she is not armed.

If you know Pollock’s whereabouts, you are asked to call the Central Dispatch non emergency number at (575) 546-0354, or 911.
