Police: 2 clowns assault group in Alamorgordo, spray silly string
The creepy clown epidemic continues to affect people in the Borderland and southern New Mexico.
Officers in Alamogordo responded to reports of a person in a clown mask clown hiding outside of Chaparral Middle School on Thursday morning, the Alamogordo Police Department announced Friday. At least three juveniles were identified in connection with the incident, according to the Alamogordo School District and District Attorney’s Office. The suspects’ charges are still pending.
A second clown-related incident was reported that evening when two clowns allegedly assaulted a group of people and sprayed them with silly string. No suspects have yet been identified.
The recent events in Alamogordo are part of an eerie trend happening across the country. Since the clown craze first began in South Carolina in late August, nearly 100 sightings have since been reported nationwide, including approximately 30 arrests.
The Alamogordo Police Department strongly emphasizes that participating in the clown frenzy is “no laughing matter,” saying, “We will aggressively pursue these type of incidents and charge those responsible to the fullest extent of the law.”
