LC Couple accused of switching bar codes to rip off Walmart
Police arrested a couple accused of switching bar codes to fraudulently obtain merchandise at a Walmart.
Joshua Sean Nestle, 25, and Bonnie Kathryn Ligon, 24, are charged with conspiracy and shoplifting (more than $500). Police said Nestle also faces one count of non-residential burglary. The charges are all fourth-degree felony counts.
Police said additional charges are pending.
The alleged theft reportedly happened Monday, October 24, at the Walmart store on Rinconada Boulevard.
Police said a loss prevention officer witnessed Nestle and Ligon transferring UPC bar codes from lower-priced merchandise to products that are more expensive.
Nestle and Ligon allegedly went to a self-checkout where $855 worth of merchandise rang up to $3.
Before police arrived at the Walmart, Nestle and Ligon allegedly fled in a silver Honda sedan driven by Ligon. Officers located the vehicle before it left the Walmart parking lot.
Nestle and Ligon were booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Nestle is initially being held without bond while bond for Ligon was set at $2,000.
