Dona Ana County assures voter security

Dona Ana County is preparing for a busy day at the polls Tuesday.

There are 40 different voter convenient centers you can swing by cast your ballot, and they’ll be put to good use. The clerks office is predicting 75,000 people in the county will turn out to vote this year, 10,000 more then the last presidential election.

With so many people, the clerk’s office wants to assure you they will not tolerate any misconduct. County Clerk Lynn Ellins gave a few examples.

“Somebody asks you, ‘who you going to vote for?’ as you go in, or there’s a table full of cookies and candies and as you go in they say, ‘say who you voted for and you can pick out what you want,'” Ellins said.

That behavior comes with consequences.

“If it’s serious the presiding judge is authorized to call 911 and law enforcement will come over and investigate,” Ellins said.

The County Clerk added that residents shouldn’t be worried about voter fraud.

“You can’t hack our voting machines, they’re not connected on the internet,” Ellins said.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
