Texas unemployment for October down slightly to 4.7 percent
The Texas Workforce Commission says the state added about 13,700 jobs in October as the Texas unemployment rate dipped to 4.7 percent.
The commission said in a release Friday that the adjusted unemployment rate is down slightly from the 4.8 percent recorded in September. The national unemployment rate for October was 4.9 percent.
Commission officials say the Austin metro region and the Amarillo-Lubbock area had the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 3.2 percent. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area had the highest rate at 6.7 percent.
Commission Chairman Andres Alcantar says the Texas economy has added an estimated 207,500 jobs over the past year.
The transportation and utility field along with the financial services sector led the way in private industry employment growth.
