Hundreds line up, some camp outside stores for “Black Thursday”

While you may have been resting after a Thanksgiving feast Thursday night, many were flocking to malls across El Paso to snag a good deal.

Retailers around the borderland chose to open their doors, in what’s known as “Black Thursday”.

Outside the Best Buy at the Fountains, ABC-7 saw hundreds lined up outside the store. Some people slept in tents, waiting for 3 days.

“It’s crazy yes, but it pays off,” said one shopper.

Then after all that waiting, the doors finally opened. It was straight to the check out line for many, scooping up laptops, TVs and video games. Some stacked their items in shopping carts, but had a hard time maneuvering through the aisles.

“It’s not very organized. I asked two or three people where the TVs were and they didn’t know where they were,” one shopper said.

As for why shoppers choose to brace the crowds on Thanksgiving Day, some said it’s not for the items. “Honestly we came here for the experience,” said Alvin Acosta, who camped outside Best Buy for over 24 hours.
