Las Cruces tree lighting ceremony to launch ‘Christmas in Cruces’ celebration

The Las Cruces and Convention Visitor’s Bureau is hosting holiday festivities throughout December beginning with the Christmas Tree Lighting at Plaza de Las Cruces.

This is the first year the tree lighting will take place at the new plaza, after being held for years at Albert Johnson Park in front of City Hall. Decorations and lights are already on the 40-foot tree.

“It’s the first time all the city departments have gotten involved, so the police department, fire department, public works, all going to have little booths and games for the kids, hot chocolate and cookies for the kids, so it’s really an all-city event,” Phil San Filippo, Executive Director of Visit Las Cruces, said.

The event will from from 5 P.M-8 P.M and the tree lighting will begin at 6:30 P.M. Families can expect games, movies, live entertainment, food and music by “DJ Claus.”

In addition to the tree lighting, there will be events held all throughout the month ending with the Chile Drop on New Year’s Eve.
