El Pasoans prep for colder temps for Celebration of Lights

The winter months are right around the corner, so with that comes the colder temperatures. Not to mention, the 12 hour Celebration of Lights Ceremony kicks off Saturday Dec. 3, with a high temperature of 46 degrees along with a chance for rain.

But for the El Pasoans’ that will brave the colder temperatures than usual, they are prepared.

“We will need to wear a heavier jacket, and my scarves, mittens,” one park goer at San Jacinto Plaza said. “We will have to get them all ready.”

While another park goer also agreed.

“Definitely need to bring more jackets, scarves, some hot chocolate for the kids, and maybe blankets if we are going to be sitting down on benches.”

Whether you will attend the ceremony Saturday or not, there is another way to help keep other El Pasoans warm. The Fire Department teamed up with the Extreme Weather Task Force to distribute blankets and heaters to those in need.

The Extreme Weather Task Force distributor, William Dozal, said this is the best time to donate any items you can.

“We need to take care of each other,” William Dozal said. “We need to help each other during this time, and a blanket makes a big difference. It might be a blanket or heater, anything helps, and people appreciate it.”

If you are interested in making your own donation, just call 2-1-1 and the operator will be able to assist you in the simple process.

The Celebration of Lights is expected to be a 12 hour event starting at 11 am with the Holiday Market.
