Portion of I-10 east back open after 9 hour closure
Sunday the I-10 East from Sunland Park to Executive Center Boulevard was shut down for 9 hours.
It opened back up at around noon, but was still down to one lane for a remaining 5 hours.
That was enough to frustrate drivers ABC-7 spoke with.
“They didn’t tell us where we were going or anything,” one driver said.
But while the freeway was closed down, cars and semi-trucks had to take a detour on Mesa Street. Drivers complained that there weren’t enough signs warning them about the closure.
“There was a sign that said I-10 closed in 5 miles, and that was it,” one driver said.
The closure was part of TXDOT’s Go-10 project. It’s the largest project TXDOT has ever done. Sunday’s portion was so crews could switch traffic onto a new set of lanes from Sunland Park to Executive Center Boulevard.
They’ll repair the existing lanes like adding new pavement and getting rid of pot holes.
By 5 p.m., all lanes were back open. Stay with KVIA.com for updates on future closures.
