Hanks wrestling star signs to continue career in college
Hanks girls wrestling has been one of the most dominant local programs in recent years, winning four consecutive state titles.
Shania Villalba has been a big part of the team’s success, and now, she’s moving on to the next level.
Villalba signed a letter of intent to continue her career at Lindenwood Belleville in Illinois.
She was surrounded by friends, family, coaches, and fellow students at a special ceremony in the Hanks library on Thursday.
As is the case for most high school students, choosing a college was a tough decision.
“I was really nervous. I’m an only child, and I’m really close to my family. And this is gonna be a really different experience for me. But, I’m excited, and I’m ready for the challenge,” she said.
Villalba says she was swayed in the end by the generous scholarship package that the school offered.
“They offered me almost a 95-percent scholarship,” she said. “So, almost 95-percent of my college will be paid for.”
