‘Giant steel cap’ arrives in West El Paso
An “enormous” steel cap arrived in El Paso Wednesday and is on the side of Interstate 10 between Schuster Avenue and Executive Center Boulevard.
Crews implemented rolling closures of I-10 East to transport the 300,000 pound cap to the site of construction. Crews will lift it into place Thursday.
TxDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Wright told ABC-7, that when it comes to transportation purposes, this will be the biggest steel cap in place in the El Paso area.
The 120 foot long steel cap “will hold up the eastbound Border West Expressway lanes, span across two existing rail lines, and rest on a column far enough away to allow room for future growth,” TxDOT said in a news release.
