Chihuahuas fall to Rainiers Thursday despite new team record

The Chihuahuas jumped out to a 5-0 lead Thursday night at home against the Tacoma Rainiers but allowed six unanswered runs to fall 6-5 in 10 innings.

Chihuahuas pitcher Dinelson Lamet struck out a team-record 13 batters in just 5 1/3 innings. That total is also a new career high for Lamet.

Lamet struck out every position player for the Rainiers at least once.

The Dogs managed to take a 5-1 lead into the 7th when Tacoma’s Daniel Vogelbach hit a game-tying grand slam. It was Vogelbach’s second straight game with a homer.

The two teams could not break the deadlock over the course of the next two innings.

But in the 10th inning, Tacoma broke through thanks to back-to-back doubles by Boog Powell and Tuffy Gosewisch.

The Chihuahuas fell to 7-8 on the season with the loss, while the Rainiers improved to 8-6.

The two squads meet for the fourth and final game of their current series Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Southwest University Park.
