Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School closing at the end of school year

Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School will close its doors at the end of the 2016-2017 academic school year, announced the Catholic Diocese of El Paso Monday evening.

A spokesperson said it is with great sadness that the decision was made.

The Diocese said for the past several years, Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School has faced significant financial challenges, despite the commendable efforts of many people the school’s financial stability.

Also, student enrollment has steadily declined. Today, the Diocese serves 3,200 students.

El Paso Catholic Schools and the Diocese of El Paso are said to be working diligently with Our Lady of Assumption families to help transition students to other area Catholic schools.

A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday.
