School removes confederate flag from student’s truck
A student at a Kansas high school believes administrators infringed on his freedom of speech.
District police removed a confederate flag from Joseph Harvey’s truck.
Harvey attends Washburn Rural High School in Topeka.
The studend and his mother have dismissed any suggestions the flag is racist.
The mother says it’s just cultural expression.
“It’s hate. It’s not hate. It’s racism. It’s not racism. This is a heritage thing – pure and simple,” said Loretta Anno.
The school said it intervenes in situations like this if actions have the “potential to disrupt the educational environment.”
