Police use tracking system to locate stolen pickup; suspected car burglar in LC to pick up daughter

Police arrested a Deming woman suspected of driving a stolen pickup from Albuquerque to Las Cruces.

Cynthia Morales, 36, of the 2100 block of south Granite in Deming, is charged with a fourth-degree felony count of receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle.

At around 12 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, Las Cruces Police received an alert from LoJack – a stolen vehicle recovery system that allows cars to be tracked.

Police learned the stolen 2003 Ford F-250 was possibly in the parking lot of the Walmart at 1550 S. Valley Dr. Officers responded to the Walmart where they located the pickup with Morales allegedly in the driver’s seat.

Investigators learned Morales was in Albuquerque with a man who allegedly broke into and started the Ford pickup.

Morales allegedly claimed that she got behind the wheel and drove the pickup south to Las Cruces. Morales told police officers she made a brief stop in Las Cruces to pick up her daughter.

Investigators learned Morales allegedly intended to drive the pickup to Deming, sell it and split the proceeds with her alleged accomplice.

Morales was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where she is initially being held without bond.
